When we visit Las Vegas, we frequently stay at the Wyndham Grand Desert. The location of the resort is not as good as some of the other timeshares, (it’s a few blocks off the strip—about a 15-minute walk) but there are other factors in play that more than make up for that.

The Grand Desert is a glitzy gold building with three towers. There is an underground parking garage with additional parking outside. The lobby is large and welcoming, and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Check-in is usually fast and the member services people with the parking passes are not too overbearing.
When we have made a special request for a room on the strip and a high floor, it has always been honored. Usually we stay in a 2-bedroom deluxe because we have taken advantage of a spacebanking. As you enter the suite, the full kitchen is either to your right or left. It is well stocked with all the usual utensils and dishes. It is separated from the living room by a bar with stools. There is also a large dining room table. Straight ahead is the living room which looks out over the Strip or the pool. There is a sleeper sofa, large screen TV, coffee and end tables and one or two chairs.
The master bedroom with king bed is on one side of the living room, complete with bathroom, shower, Jacuzzi, washer and dryer. On the opposite side of the living area is a guest bath and a bedroom with 2 double beds. The furnishings are not luxurious, but they are tasteful and very comfortable. The main tower is in the process of being refurbished.
Towers 1 and 3 have activity rooms with games, billiards, and computers for guests to use. Tower 2 houses a deli, gift shop and an exercise room. All are close by and easily accessible. There are 3 heated outdoor pools: one is a zero walk-in pool, one an adult lap pool. There are also hot tubs close to the pools.
The main tower lobby has a Starbucks kiosk as well as a full bar with some gaming machines. A free shuttle provides transportation to Harrah’s every half hour or so.
Activities abound at the Grand Desert. Many van trips are available to grocery stores, Fremont Street, Red Rock Canyon and outlet shopping for nominal fees. There is a welcome breakfast complete with prizes. There are many craft activities for kids and fun nights for them as well as teen brothers and sisters. One activity that we particularly enjoyed was a wine and cheese party with Lyrehc (Cheryl spelled backwards) who is an excellent singer and hostess. There are a few shows offered at a discount, and a concierge is available to help with all your bookings.
Las Vegas is a fascinating place to visit, whether you’re a high roller, play the penny slots like we do, or don’t gamble at all. See our previous post, What to Do in Las Vegas Other Than Gamble.
